The term "Fishwife" dates back to the 16th century, originally referring to the daughters or wives of fishermen who sold fish at the market, but it gradually evolved into a gendered insult for women considered brash, foul-mouthed, and brassy—something the founders of Fishwife can relate to. Established in 2020 by Becca Millstein and Caroline Goldfarb, Fishwife is a new, female-founded and led food company dedicated to making ethically sourced, premium, and delicious tinned seafood a staple in every cupboard. They source their seafood from healthy fisheries and certified sustainable aquaculture farms, aiming to bring the vibrance of conservas culture to North American tables.
