About Cascina Oschiena
Cascina Oschiena, one of the oldest rice farms in Italy’s Piedmont region, dates back to the 16th century and was originally part of the Abbey of St. Stephen of Vercelli. Now managed by Alice Cerutti, the farm specializes in sustainable rice cultivation, growing traditional varieties like Arborio and Carnaroli while emphasizing biodiversity. It has transformed 25 hectares into a nature reserve, supporting wetlands that provide a habitat for amphibians, insects, and migratory birds, including Italy’s only recorded nesting site for the Black-tailed Godwit. Cascina Oschiena also offers educational experiences, allowing visitors to engage in farming activities and learn about sustainable agriculture and local ecology.
