About Point Reyes
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company traces its roots to 1904 when Tobias Giacomini, the great-grandfather of the current owners, left Northern Italy to farm in California. In 1959, his descendants, Bob and Dean, purchased a dairy farm on Tomales Bay, where they began selling milk to a local creamery. By the 1990s, the farm’s herd grew to over 500 cows, but the size became unsustainable for the 720-acre property. In response, the Giacomini family, with four daughters returning to the farm, shifted the focus from large-scale dairy farming to artisan cheesemaking. In 2000, they introduced Original Blue, California’s only classic-style blue cheese, marking the beginning of Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company. Today, the company continues the family legacy, honouring the land and sharing their passion for farm-fresh, artisanal cheeses with cheese lovers across the country.
