About Mother-in-Law's
Mother-in-Law’s was founded with a mission to share authentic, handcrafted, small-batch kimchi made from the finest natural ingredients. Inspired by Korea’s rich tradition of kimchi-making, founder Lauryn Chun, a food and wine enthusiast, sought to elevate kimchi alongside fine fermented foods like wine, cheese, and beer. In Korean culinary tradition, learning a family’s kimchi recipe from the mother-in-law is a cherished rite of passage for new brides, reflecting the significance of this skill in Korean households and became the inspiration for the company's name. The company’s first kimchi, the original “House,” launched in 2009 and remains its best-seller, rooted in a family recipe from Chun’s mother’s restaurant, Mother-in-Law’s House (Jang Mo Jip), established in 1989 in Garden Grove, California.
