About Mahon
Mahón cheese is a traditional Spanish cheese made on the island of Menorca, part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. It is a cow's milk cheese known for its firm texture, buttery flavour, and distinctive tang. The cheese is often aged for several months, and during the aging process, it is traditionally rubbed with olive oil and paprika, which gives it a bright orange rind. Mahón has a smooth, slightly crumbly texture when young and becomes firmer and more intense in flavour as it ages. The cheese has a protected designation of origin (PDO) status, ensuring its authenticity and production methods are consistent with traditional practices.
