About Capriole
In 1976, Larry and his family purchased a long-abandoned hill farm in southern Indiana that had once belonged to Larry’s great-great-great-grandparents. Despite the rundown state of the property, they felt it had “good bones” and began restoring it. Their journey into farming and cheesemaking began when they started with a small herd of goats, and by the mid-1980s, they were making goat cheese for family and friends. In 1988, they built a commercial dairy and began selling cheese, eventually expanding their herd and building a small creamery by 1990. As demand for their cheeses grew, they sold the herd in 2012 to focus solely on cheesemaking, allowing for improvements in quality and consistency. Over the years, Capriole’s story has been shaped by family, passion, and a deep love for cheesemaking, and today it continues as a legacy, supported by a dedicated team of cheesemakers and the next generation of the family.
